I’m very excited to announce that my short story “Walking in Ash” will be included in the upcoming anthology Pluto in Furs edited by Scott Dwyer and published by Plutonian Press.

The editor stated on Facebook that: “Pluto in Furs is an anthology that mixes deeply disturbing and nightmarish horror with perverse and transgressive dark erotica. The title is a take on Sacher-Masoch’s Venus in Furs. I think horror fans are really gonna dig this one. Date of publication should be Aug, 1st 2019.” In other words, it’s going to be a must-buy for horror fans that like their shit dark and disturbing.

My contribution, “Walking in Ash”, is the story of a young couple who move into their first home together. After an exploratory walk around the neighbourhood, Aaron is possessed by an indescribably dread and begins seeing glimpses into a future of nuclear destruction. As he struggles to make sense of these visions, his sanity begins to slip away.

This piece was notoriously difficult to write. Mainly because it was the first story I wrote that actually scared me away from the page. For this reason, out of all the short stories I’ve written thus far, it also took the longest to finish. The sense of anxiety that permeates the text was almost too much to handle at times. I’m looking forward to what readers think of this one. If you’re familiar with my debut collection, Nightmares in Ecstasy, “Walking in Ash” is like a fusion of Stag Loop and A Feast of You, marrying the sense of dread from the former with the disturbing, low-key cosmicism of the latter.
