Pre-orders are now available for my debut collection NIGHTMARES IN ECSTASY. Head over to Clash Books or Amazon to reserve a copy.
Nightmares in Ecstasy is a collection of thirteen stories of surreal body horror. Within its pages, the line between eroticism and terror, desire and death, is blurred. Damaged souls hurtle, as if in a dream, toward mutilation, transformation and fates worse than death. It is literary hardcore fiction for fans of David Cronenberg, Junji Ito, and Clive Barker.
“Surreal, grotesque, erotic. Brendan Vidito is a unique and disturbing new voice.”
-Wrath James White, author of If You Died Tomorrow I Would Eat Your Corpse
“Brendan Vidito is the bastard son of Clive Barker and his fresh take on body horror will f**k you up.”
-Jack Bantry, creator of Splatterpunk Zine & author of The Lucky Ones Died First
“Vidito’s words squirt shocking psychosexual bug juice into your brain’s most private parts.”
-John Skipp, author of The Light at the End
Hello everyone. I’m thrilled to announce my debut collection, NIGHTMARES IN ECSTASY, will be released in October through Clash Books. It features thirteen stories of surreal body horror that I’ve written over the last four years. It’s incredibly exciting to see them collected in one gorgeous volume with cover art by the incomparable Matthew Revert.
Preorders will be available soon. Stay tuned for more exciting news in the near future.
Do you have a date lined up, but don’t know what to do? Why not watch a really fucking weird movie? Head over the CLASH media for some suggestions guaranteed to make for a memorable first date.
My story “Piss Slave” is included in this anthology published by Nihilism Revised. This thing is massive. Thirty-six writers spread out over four hundred pages. Any reader is guaranteed to go insane by the time they reach the end.
It’s available in two editions, each with a different cover by the talented Jim Agpalza. The one pictured above is limited to 100 copies, so be sure to secure one as soon as possible. It’s available on Amazon (US, UK, CANADA) as well as Barnes and Noble.
Meanwhile, I’ve been hard at work on a novella, so expect some exciting news in the coming months.
Thank you for your support!
A quick update. Dead Bait 4, an anthology of aquatic horror stories edited by Cameron Pierce and published by Severed Press, just released today. It includes my hydrotherapy horror story “The Black Waters of Babylon” You can purchase a copy by following this link.
Also, this year at BizarroCon, I released a chapbook along with Lucas Mangum and Charles Austin Muir (both extremely talented writers) called Forest of Sex and Death. We have several copies left. If you are interested, please send me a message and I can mail one your way. They only cost five bucks.
Okay, now back to work!
I’m thrilled to announce my short story “Piss Slave” (actual title, sorry not sorry) will be included in the upcoming anthology Strange Behaviors: An Anthology of Absolute Luridity released by NihilismRevised. It’s probably the darkest, most lyrical piece I’ve written so far and explores the idea how pain binds us together…and there’s also copious amounts of urine. Happy to see some familiar names on the TOC and look that cover by Jim Agpalza! Holy shit.
In other news, I’ve started working on a novel. My social life is going to take a dive, but expect to hear more about it in the near future. Really excited about this one.
Head over to CLASH Media to check out some weird graphic novels for your summer reading list.
I’ve also updated my Bibliography page with new upcoming short stories. Both should be released before the end of the year.
As always, thanks everyone! Enjoy the rest of your summer.
In the mood for a good, fun horror movie? Head over to CLASH MEDIA and check out my review of THE VOID (2016).
In other news, my short story “The Black Waters of Babylon” has been picked up for the upcoming Dead Bait 4 anthology. It’s about a man who travels to a remote seaside rehabilitation centre to repair his broken body. Due to the severity of his condition, he must undergo the most extreme form of hydrotherapy the facility has to offer. And needless to say, weird shit happens.
I’ll post a link to the anthology here when it’s released.
I’m happy to announce that my short story “Stag Loop” will be included in Leza Cantoral’s anthology TRAGEDY QUEENS: STORIES INSPIRED BY LANA DEL REY AND SYLVIA PLATH published by Clash Media. This collection looks incredible. I’m immensely humbled to share its pages with so many writers I admire. And it looks like I’m about to discover a bunch of new ones. So, needless to say, I’m very excited to give it a read.
“Stag Loop” is one of those rare stories where I actually remember what inspired it. Late one night I jumped down an Internet rabbit hole and saw my first vintage stag loop video. I remember thinking it was vaguely creepy, owing to the discordant background music and sepia coloured filter. But there was also something oddly “real” about it. By that I mean it didn’t have the overblown, staged quality of most modern pornography. It was just two average-looking people fucking in front of a stationary camera. This somehow set off a chain reaction in my brain, which eventually lead me to writing the story.
To prepare (and I don’t usually do this) I read Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s The Yellow Wallpaper twice. In some intuitive way, I felt it had something to offer the story I was working on. When I finally sat down to write it, I used the now-cancelled Silent Hills PT demo as inspiration for the tone and overall sense of dread.
So yeah, there were some very specific ingredients that lead to the creation of this story. It’s pretty dark and brutal, but I feel like it has something to say, and I hope you enjoy it when it comes out.
I’ll post a link to the anthology when it’s released, so stay tuned!
Head over to CLASH media and check out my review for Michael Allen Rose‘s latest slice of bizarro goodness, the comedy noir Embry: Hard Boiled. Micheal is a great dude, and his fiction is really fun and unique. If you’re a fan of bizarro fiction or want to shake up your reading habits a bit, do yourself a favour and pick up some of his work.
And, if I’ve successfully made a fan out of you, consider heading over to his Patreon page and feeding the beast so he can continue making some weird, awesome art!
Thanks everyone! And, as always, watch out for Mole People.
