Get Lit With Leza: The Weird World of Brendan Vidito

Recently I had the pleasure of chatting with Leza Cantoral on her podcast, Get Lit With Leza. We talked about body horror, sexuality, fairy tales, horror as creative catharsis, and my collection, Nightmares in Ecstasy.

You can listen to our conversation here!

This was my first podcast appearance and I think it went pretty well! I’m not usually comfortable talking about my work publicly, but the format of Leza’s podcast is so informal and relaxed that my stage fright (pod fright?) was unfounded. I told her Get Lit is essentially made up of a series of tangents. It’s a unique formula that contributes to the show’s playful atmosphere and originality. If you get the chance, be sure to check out the other episodes. She has spoken to some truly talented and interesting guests.

Out Today: Nightmares in Ecstasy (And Other Updates)

My debut collection, Nightmares in Ecstasy, is out today! If you’re a fan of the films of David Cronenberg, the stories of Clive Barker, or the art of Junji Ito, you’ll likely find something to enjoy in these thirteen tales of body horror. If you read the book, please take the time to leave an honest review on Amazon and Goodreads. It’ll help stave off my own grisly transformation for a little while longer. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped bring these stories into the world. Here’s hoping you all get weird boners and nightmares!

You can purchase a copy on the Clash website, or over at Amazon.

In other news…

If you’re from my hometown of Sudbury, Ontario, I’m having a book launch party at the Sudbury Theatre Centre on October 28th. Doors open at 1:30 and the event runs from 2:00-5:00PM. There will be a reading, Q&A, short film screening, prizes, and a bunch of other weird shit. Honestly, I’m more nervous about doing this kind of thing in my own hometown than a horror convention abroad, like Killer Con. I’ll be praying to Gamba, the Devil-God of Evil, for his support and evil mojo.

On November 3rd, I’ll be participating in a reading at Dark Delicacies in Burbank alongside Daniel Knauf, Autumn Christian, John Skipp, Devora Gray, Jennifer Robin, and Laura Lee Bahr. I’m incredibly excited to spend some time in California, as well as to have the privilege of reading with such amazing and talented writers.

Events aside, I’ve been juggling multiple projects lately. I hope to finish a trailer for Nightmares in Ecstasy very soon. I’m also hard at work on a novella for Clash and several short stories.

Outside of writing, I’ve been reading quite a bit. I recently finished Autumn Christian’s Girl Like a Bomb, and I’m nearly finished Cody Goodfellow’s All Monster Action! Both books are incredible. There are writers you can hope to emulate, and then there’s these two, who operate on a different level altogether. They’re both literary shamans, demigods of the written word. And they’ve been immensely inspiring to me. I’ll write reviews as soon as I have the opportunity!

Once again, I want to thank everyone for their love and support. The reception surrounding the collection so far has been overwhelming in the best possible way. I can’t wait to share more of my stories with you in the near future.

Upcoming Release: Zombie Punks Fuck Off

My story, “Earworm”, will be included in the upcoming Zombie Punks Fuck Off anthology published by Clash Books. Sam Richard has put together quite the lineup, and I’m incredibly humbled to be included among such talented writers. This one is going to be must-buy, especially in time for Halloween.

Here’s the back cover copy from the Clash website:

We’ve been hearing forever that Punk is Dead. And zombies stories are even deader. ZOMBIE PUNKS, FUCK OFF is here to show that is bullshit. This antho is loaded with 14 stories of gnawing teeth, shredded entrails, rotting masses, punk as fuck fury, post-punk weirdness, and beautiful decay. Within these pages are a touring Christian Punk band run afoul of a horde of living dead, a group of zombie-infected anarcho-punks staging a revolution in London, Hank William’s far-distant great-grandson struggling against the restraints of universal fame, and guitars that gently eat.

Pre-Order Nightmares in Ecstasy

Pre-orders are now available for my debut collection NIGHTMARES IN ECSTASY. Head over to Clash Books or Amazon to reserve a copy.

Nightmares in Ecstasy is a collection of thirteen stories of surreal body horror. Within its pages, the line between eroticism and terror, desire and death, is blurred. Damaged souls hurtle, as if in a dream, toward mutilation, transformation and fates worse than death. It is literary hardcore fiction for fans of David Cronenberg, Junji Ito, and Clive Barker.

“Surreal, grotesque, erotic. Brendan Vidito is a unique and disturbing new voice.”
-Wrath James White, author of If You Died Tomorrow I Would Eat Your Corpse

“Brendan Vidito is the bastard son of Clive Barker and his fresh take on body horror will f**k you up.”
-Jack Bantry, creator of Splatterpunk Zine & author of The Lucky Ones Died First

“Vidito’s words squirt shocking psychosexual bug juice into your brain’s most private parts.”
-John Skipp, author of The Light at the End

Coming soon: Nightmares in Ecstasy

Hello everyone. I’m thrilled to announce my debut collection, NIGHTMARES IN ECSTASY, will be released in October through Clash Books. It features thirteen stories of surreal body horror that I’ve written over the last four years. It’s incredibly exciting to see them collected in one gorgeous volume with cover art by the incomparable Matthew Revert.

Preorders will be available soon. Stay tuned for more exciting news in the near future.

My story “Piss Slave” is included in this anthology published by Nihilism Revised. This thing is massive. Thirty-six writers spread out over four hundred pages. Any reader is guaranteed to go insane by the time they reach the end.

It’s available in two editions, each with a different cover by the talented Jim Agpalza. The one pictured above is limited to 100 copies, so be sure to secure one as soon as possible. It’s available on Amazon (US, UK, CANADA) as well as Barnes and Noble.

Meanwhile, I’ve been hard at work on a novella, so expect some exciting news in the coming months.

Thank you for your support!
